Lauded by the Cleveland Plain-Dealer for “graceful agility, rising to shining high notes” and use of “coloratura writing as an extension of character,” Nili Riemer returns to the role of Königin der Nacht in Die Zauberflöte in a new production with Opera Royal de Wallonie and the Minnesota Orchestra with Osmo Vänskä conducting and to Austin Lyric Opera for the Flight Controller in Jonathan Dove’s Flight and the Lyric Opera of Kansas City for Marie in La fille du regiment in the 2010-11 season. Last season, she sang her first performances of the title role of Lucia di Lammermoor in the opera’s originally composed higher keys with Cleveland Opera and Princess Laoula in L’etoile with Austin Lyric Opera and debuted with the Stadttheater Heidelberg as Königin der Nacht in Die Zauberflöte. She also joined Robert Spano and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra for Donald Sur’s Slavery Documents in its Martin Luther King Day concert broadcast on National Public Radio and San Antonio Opera for a concert of arias. .
Ms. Riemer enjoys a strong relationship with Minnesota Opera as a former Resident Artist and has joined the company for Olympia in Les contes d’Hoffmann, Oscar in Un ballo in maschera, the title role of Lakme, and Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro. Her other recent performances include her European debut singing Cunegonde in Candide with the Kammerchor-Steffisburg in Thun, Switzerland, Blondchen in Die Entführung aus dem Serail with Anchorage Opera, and Despina in Così fan tutte with Chautauqua Opera.
Following her first performances of Olympia in Les contes D’Hoffmann with Des Moines Metro Opera, Opera News exclaimed, “Each unattainable inamorata emerged solidly, particularly the delectable Olympia of Nili Riemer, whose pinpoint coloratura and ditzy wind-up-shtick exploited the role's potential charmingly.” The soprano has also appeared multiple times with Tri-Cities Opera, in leading roles that include Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Königin der Nacht in Die Zauberflöte, the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor, Marie in La Fille du Régiment, and Monica in The Medium.
As a former member of Chautauqua Opera’s Studio Artist Program, she sang Suor Genevieve in Suor Angelica and Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro. Other roles to the soprano’s credit include Silverpeal and Goldentrill in Mozart’s Impresario at the International Vocal Arts Institute in Tel Aviv, Feu and Rossignol in L’Enfant et les Sortilèges in Boston, and Amor in L’incoronazione di Poppea with the Bay Area Summer Opera Institute.
A versatile concert performer as well, Ms. Riemer has joined the Brooklyn Philharmonic for a concert featuring Zerbinetta's showstopper aria from Ariadne auf Naxos and the Minnesota Orchestra for "Der Hoelle Rache" from " Die Zauberfloete She has has sung Barber’s Prayers of Kierkegaard and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms with the Binghamton Philharmonic. She joined the Binghamton University Concert Orchestra as a guest artist for Orff’s Carmina Burana and the Tufts University Concert Orchestra for Poulenc’s Gloria. At the Newport Jazz Festival, Ms. Riemer performed Brubeck’s Gates of Justice. .
Ms. Riemer has received a number of awards and grants from the Gerda Lissner Foundation, Shoshannah Foundation, and Career Bridges. She is also a former winner of the Nebraska district Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, first place winner of the Schubert Club Competition, second place winner of the Altamura-Caruso International Vocal Competition, and third place winner of the Queens Opera Competition. The Israeli-born soprano holds a Master of Music degree from the State University of New York-Binghamton. She is a graduate of the five-year accelerated dual-degree program at New England Conservatory of Music and Tufts University, where she earned a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in International Relations.
