JUL '08 DESPINA IN MOZART'S "COSI FAN TUTTE" Chautauqua Opera
|
|
"Here, [Despina]’s played by Nili Riemer, whose distinctively feathery, warbling soprano and oversized personality make her a cleaning lady to remember. In this case, when Despina says success ensues in any production over which she takes charge, her words are true in more ways than one"
The Chautauquan Daily
Review: Cosi fan tutte, Z. Lewis
"The women's maid, Despina, requires fine singing, but it demands outstanding comic acting as well, and Nili Riemer was up to the challenge."

MAY '08 ROSINA IN ROSSINI'S "IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA" Tri-Cities Opera |
|
"As is often the case, Rossini's opera was here divided into more leisurely three-acts with the curtain going up on the second act clearly focused on soprano Nili Riemer's show stopping cavatina (“Una voce poco fa”). By turns demure, beguiling and feisty, Riemer's singing was gorgeous, disciplined and note-perfect. In a role originally conceived for a mezzo, Riemer nonetheless commanded enough vocal heft and breath control to deliver a rich, well-projected chest tone when needed. Beginning with an unusually slow introduction she advanced to a delicious attack on “L'orai” before taking on the more rapid, high-lying allegro, gradually adding increased ornamentation (the fiorature on “Lindoro” was beautifully phrased). The rapid portion was finely done and the cadenza closed on a well-placed shimmering F.
Riemer's command of colorature during her well-matched duet with Figaro (“Dunque io son”) was also superb."

"Zerbetta's Aria from Richard Strauss's "Ariadne auf Naxos," [was] sung with clear and sweet coloratura by soprano Nili Riemer. She takes us into her confidence and holds us rapt till her end—a wink."

NOV '07 BLONDCHEN IN MOZART'S "DIE ENTFUHRUNG AUS DEM SERAIL' Anchorage Opera |
|
"A perfectly executed example was the aria and duet at the top of Act II, where the spunky Blonda (Nili Riemer) poo poohs Osmin (David Ward), telling him English ladies respond best to sweet courting, not orders. Riemer’s cotton candy soprano danced effortlessly through Mozart’s intimidating coloratura passages. She punctuated ruthless high notes with charming physical comedy bits, never betraying even a wrinkle of tension in her face."
"Acting-wise, Riemer and tenor Aaron Pegram (as Blonda’s lover Pedrillo) could not be beat"

SEPT '07 OSCAR IN VERDI'S "UN BALLO IN MASCHERA" Minnesota Opera |
|
Energy was also the hallmark of Nili Riemer's nimble Oscar. She lit up Verdi's breezy, French-flavored ensembles...and forcefully projected the work's distinctively tragicomic character.
Opera News, Dec.2007 Vol.72 no.6
In Review: Un Ballo in Maschera, L. Fuchsberg
"The show-stealer is Nili Riemer, who did the same in "Tales of Hoffmann" at the Ordway last year. Riemer is perfect as Oscar, one of the king's attendants, who appears to have walked straight out of a Mozart opera buffa and into middle-period Verdi...Riemer was an unforgettable Olympia in "Hoffmann," and her easy coloratura and sparkling stage presence make her ideal in this role."

Minnesota Opera's masked ball comes together with force, J. Furst
"It was Nili Riemer, in the trouser role of Oscar, who delivered the most satisfying performance. Her quicksilver soprano made easy work of the punishing tesitura and demanding coloratura. What’s more, she made the foolishly self-important youth a delight at each appearance."

|
“Soprano Nili Riemer, a Chautauqua Opera Young Artist, has a relatively minor role playing the gardener’s daughter Barbarina. But she uses every opportunity she has to display a lovely, razor-sharp voice, one that’s likely to carry her into more demanding territory soon enough.”

NOV '05 LUCIA IN DONIZETTI'S "LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR" Tri-Cities Opera |
|
"To fine phrasing and enormous vocal agility, Nili Riemer has recently added a subtle vibrato which enormously enhanced her lovely Act 1 cavatina Regnava nel silenzio. Her Act 2 plea (Soffriva nel pianto), sung almost prone on the floor of her brother's study, was heartbreakingly lovely. The Act 3 mad scene was marked by complete vocal and dramatic involvement and some lovely ornamentation in coloratura runs as Riemer passed disconcertedly among the assembled wedding guests to the accompaniment of a solo flute."

JUN/JUL '05 OLYMPIA IN OFFENBACH'S "LES CONTES D'HOFFMANN" Des Moines Metro Opera |

"Offenbach's Les Contes D'Hoffmann employed that comfy old performing edition we all knew and loved before scholarship managed to all but drain the life out of the piece. Each unattainable inamorata emerged solidly, particularly the delectable Olympia of Nili Riemer, whose pinpoint coloratura and ditzy wind-up-shtick exploited the role's potential charmingly"

FEB '05 MONICA IN MENOTTI'S "THE MEDIUM" Tri-Cities Opera |
|
"As Monica, the wistful daughter of the medium, soprano Nili Riemer gave a remarkable performance, alternately mimicking the voice of an imaginary, imperious queen and that of the mute, Toby (very well acted by Peter Walz) to whom she sings the subtle and complex waltz "Monica, Monica." Riemer's melancholy folk ditty about a black swan performed against her mother's frightened prayer at the end of the first act was stunning"

OCT/NOV '04 MARIE IN DONIZETTI'S "LA FILLE DU REGIMENT" Tri-Cities Opera |
|
"Soprano Nili Riemer appears to have been born to sing the title role: With excellent musicianship, a clear command of both language and score, Riemer delivered a stunning performance with a splendid coloratura, effortless use of portamento and gorgeous, well supported top notes. Her martial ditty on the 21st Regiment ("Chacun la sait, chacun le dit”) showed wonderful breath control, and her Act 1 romance ("Il faut partir") was deeply touching. Moreover, Riemer is quite a skilled actress: Her ill-concealed distaste for an obligatory lesson in polite singing and deportment in Act 2 was extremely funny without being excessive"
